CHRISTMAS MUSIC SHARING MEME
'Tis the season to be jolly, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

second...I know I haven't been posting much lately. Too too busy with research stuffs. phooey. I've dropped quite a lot of TV watching, including three shows : Heroes (I wouldn't let myself get attached to the 4th season, the first half of the third season burned me too much), Gossip Girl (I was actually okay with this season but I left right before Hilary Duff showed up) and </i>The Office</i> (I was okay with the episodes I saw, but I left one episode before the wedding. I'm fine with where the characters are and I don't feel like seeing anymore? And all I've heard is a bit too soapy, even for my taste. But I must see that music video thing.).
Everything else I'm more or less catching up on one to three weeks of episodes. We're behind three episodes of Supernatural, and I'm not watching any new fall shows.

You know how people complained that they wouldn't touch continuing story shows and preferred super-episodic stuff? And how fans like me would call them lazy? Well...now I see their point. The only new shows I'm thinking about catching up on starting January are White Collar for awesome cast and fun, and Community, which I've heard has improved from the so-so things I've heard about in the beginning. Okay, I heard there was a really funny Batman scene and I have to understand everything leading up to it. Plus I like what I've seen of The Soup and its host.
Those two shows appear to be really light and entertaining shows, ones I can still enjoy while checking out research or job links or catching up on my immense tumblr backlog.

This is also partly why I've been watching movies. The full reasons are:
1) getting staging ideas for my research paper about a hypothetical movie
2) I don't have to attach the computer to watch most of them on the TV
3) They have a definite end.

I'll end this with super cool link from a few days ago:

for posting the vid on ontd and translating!
"At the beginning xabi told piqué if any questions were directed at all three of them then make silva answer them, (and right after that silva says to them that he's not talking, he's keeping quiet) so there was one and immediately piqué and xabi both looked over and piqué said "give it to silva" and so he had to answer it!"

HAHAHAHAHA so hilarious. I LOVE EVIL XABI and that face he made when he heard that sound. ♥ ♥ ♥

Okay I realize not all my LJ friends love football so pardon my fangirl-ing!! But everyone should really appreciate these Spaniards! I'm so excited for the World

Of course, the thing most people seem to be posting about: Doctor Who.

Is there life on Mars? )

Sorry I've been so quite the past few days; I've had a barrage of tests and practical assessments (including one tomorrow, ugh), and have been trying to get to bed as quickly as possible, which sadly limits my internet use. But I think the sleep is worth it. ME + SLEEP = OTP at the minute, for srs.

Also, slighly off topic, but relevant to my interests: I was searching YouTube for videos from the Merlin panel at last month's Expo, and I came across this little gem (which may or may not embed properly, but it's up here anyway):

You can actually hear my question at 07:40 (I'm the "young lady at the front" lol), so now I have me speaking to Angel Coubly, Katie McGrath and Johnny Capps preserved for all eternity on the internet. It's quite strange that my voice is now on YouTube, but I'm happy and don't care :D

Oh, and last but not least: my birthday is tomorrow, which is kind of kickass, and kind of a downer, but I shall just see how it rolls. So this is me saying goodbye old age, and HELLO NEW SPARKLY AGE on my journal. My third birthday on LJ *pulls party popper*

That 30 Seconds to Mars are playing London again (Wembley) in February! That's when I'm in New York goddamnit! Why do we have to like, swap countries eh? Terrific timing. Though, I will have a passport by then, obviously, perhaps Lille or Paris is tempting...

In other news: Life is terribly dull.

Although I did just watch Garrow's Law. Fascinating stuff.

ETA: Ok, ok. I will now have to fully admit that Andrew Buchan is really cute as Will Garrow. REALLY cute. Fuck knows why, he's just so... huggable. He's just such an adorable good-hearted character. Le sigh. I didn't like him as whatshisface in Jane Eyre. But I love him in this! Around 32:43 ♥ -- http://bbc.co.uk/i/p1jyv/

It's that glorious time of year when we reunite with loved ones (we neglected all year), stuff our faces to excess, and pass out in front of the TV. Perhaps a recalibration of the thanksometer is in order. A spin-off of the popular GivesMeHope.com site, this community invites you to document moments of kindness, generosity, and pure human love.

Despite its mainstream appeal, Thanksgiving is not for everyone. There are those struggling with food disorders, for whom this day causes endless conflict. There are the cash-challenged, who can't afford the gluttony we've grown to expect. There are the lonely, who don't have loved ones nearby. And let's not forget the vegetarians, who decry the animal cruelty. But there's one more group we often overlook: the terminally lazy! This community of lazy vegetarians offers easy recipes for an animal-friendly feast.

Just in time for holiday shopping season, this fashionista community brings you the world of haute couture in the form of sumptuous photos, video clips, and candid commentary. There's also a sugary sprinkle of mainstream movie discussions and debates on such pressing social issues as manicure styles and celebrity colonics. If you need a break from the daily grind to indulge your girlie side, this is twinkly pink on steroids.

Meaning, of course, that I've finished watching the series. Actually finished a few days ago, which is why my sleeping rhythm is still a bit weird.

So, after what, 250 episodes or something, here's my bottom line:

Not surprisingly, Buffy/Angel is still my OTP. Totally and forever.

Considerably more surprisingly, neither of them are my favourite characters. Just ... damn, how does Spike do it? Is it just kinda IMPOSSIBLE for him to ever be anything other than brilliant? I will admit that his accent kills me in all the best ways - what can I say, I'm a sucker for Brits or well-faked ones. I'm pretty much in love with Spike. He made a great villain, but, lo and behold, also shaped up quite nicely on the other side. (Also, more screen time)

Not sure I would've fallen for this What-HOSHIT-I'm-suddenly-in-love-with-my-part-time-nemesis routine if ... idk, I guess the acting hadn't been so good or it wouldn't have been so hilarious (and sometimes heartbreaking). Just, guh, he with his swaggering and boozing and pet names and peroxide and swirling leather coat and complete FAIL all the time, but at least he always says what's on his mind and if he loves someone, he commits completely ... yeah.

Some Buffy Season Talk )

Some Angel Season Talk )

There's one thing I realised: Weirdly, I don't even love Buffy as a character that much, most of the time anyway. You know, when she's so chipper and blonde and girly and, ugh, well, an American cheerleader and always just awesome and can do anything and is so cool. But! When her weaker side wins over, that's when I really like her. I guess I have a thing for tragic heros... but I just know that I liked Buffy best a) after she killed Angel, b) when her Mum died, and c) after she was resurrected.

And finally, I believe this is the first fandom where I have an OT3. It shouldn't be hard to guess which one =)

I SO HAVE TO GET SOME SLEEP. Have an exam on Thursday, meh - it's just for English, so no evol law stuff, but the one part I like the least about English and American Studies, linguistics.

ETA: I now totally have a BtVS/AtS tag. LOL. They've earned it.

THE FOOL'S ERRAND:

"Three ships approach from the South," he said. "I fear that it is a surprise attack by the Swords. Though I possess the sacred RW, I am helpless to prevent them from landing."

"I would not go in there if I were you," warned a woman tending to a garden of nine star-shaped flowers. "No one has ever found their way out."

"There must be a clue to the fourteen treasures here somewhere!”
“YES?,” the World suddenly replied.
“Praise be!” he cried, leaping for joy. “Please, I am in haste. What can you tell me?”
“Yes,” the World repeated.
The Fool scratched his head in bewilderment.
“You say yes, yet nothing more?”
“Yes” was its final word on the matter.

“Yet we might part with one basket,” the little girl whispered, “if you were to tell us the word of a star.”
“And the word of the pyramids!” the boy quickly added.

Keeping to the path, the Fool located a hidden fortress, perched precariously atop a lonely crag. It was here that he encountered the mighty Hierophant.
“I know of your quest,” spoke the priest suspiciously. “Four others have come before you.”

The road narrowed into a winding path that climbed up the side of a desolate plateau. As the Fool reached its top, an explosion of crimson fire blocked his way and out of the flames walked a stern woman, unscathed by the heat.
“You have dared to trespass!” she screamed wickedly. “It is common knowledge that to face the High Priestess is death, yet you have come here alone. Why?”
“I am just following the path that the sun advised,” he blurted out nervously. “Please tell the High Priestess that I meant no harm!”
“Tell her yourself,” she grinned, “for I am she!”
The Fool trembled in his pointed shoes.
“Yes, and I know of the sun’s tricks,” she cackled. “He has sent you on a mission to uncover the fourteen lost treasures of the world. Well, you are doomed to failure, for no one can undo the treachery I have inflicted upon the land!”
“You?” he murmured. “You have taken the fourteen treasures?”

The Fool twirled around, but saw no one standing next to him.
“Do you doubt their words?” the bright yellow sun asked.
Pacing back and forth, the Fool took a moment to reflect upon the events of his errand and then snapped his fingers with a smile.
“Why not at all!” he suddenly realized, “for I am the one who will save the land!”

Ahh, I'm so nervous about going back to college tomorrow... I hadn't called in to my tutors, and even though they all know what's going on with me and that I am still very wobbly in it all, I'm still nervous. I don't think they'll shout or anything, and let's face it, there really isn't much they can do to me, but I'm still quite scared. I don't like having people angry at me... But what was I supposed to say if I called? "Sorry, I'm being pathetic and cowardly"? And I really don't want to give names, although I know they'll ask. But, well, it's not bullying, not yet.

Ah! No. I'm not thinking all this - I'll only end up talking myself out of going in tomorrow, and that is Not Allowed.

It will be fine. It WILL.

I, umm, I bought the second Twilight book today. It was cheap! The writing still makes me wince in places... And this one, somehow, isn't quite as romantic - which rather defeated the object, for me, as that's why I like the first one. I can't help it. My tastes are strange - on the one hand, I love NGEva, Gundam Wing and Snatch, on the other I love shoujo manga and Georgette Heyer novels. Odd. Very odd. XD

I'm sorry, guys, but actually I need to get sorted out for tomorrow, so I'll have to check out your journals and everything tomorrow lunchtime or evening... I'm sorry. I hope you're all healthy and happy... Much love to all of you!
